who i am
I have been a resident of Cache Valley for most of my adult life. After spending much of my childhood moving from state to state, this Valley is, and always will be, my home. It is where I met my wife and where we are raising our children. I am committed to serving my friends and neighbors and making this Valley an even better place to live.
My Background
My professional background is rooted in public service. Much of my career has been in local government, including two years as Senior Policy Analyst for the Cache County Council. In that role, I helped the Council write and pass ordinances, resolutions and budgets. I learned the details of County government, along with the specific concerns and needs of Cache County.
While working with the County Council, I was able to be a part of important and groundbreaking changes in Cache County. Here are few things I was a part of:
Helped author a sweeping change in how finances were administered in the County, moving them to the purview of the County Auditor. This helped prevent the loss of a $500,000 grant the County is awarded every year.
Assisted in the creation of a new Countywide Policy Manual, providing direction and standard operating procedures for County employees, and intended to supplement the already existing Personnel, Policy and Procedures Manual.
Established legislative committees within the County Council. While certain committees had been operating previously, they were directed by the Executive. In early 2024, I assisted the Council in creating three purely legislative committees in County Code, mirroring the deliberative committee process observed in Congress and the Utah legislature.
I have also spent much of my career in natural resources policy, with an emphasis in water. Currently, I work for the Utah Department of Natural Resources, where I assist the Great Salt Lake Commissioner in balancing the water needs of the Great Salt Lake with those of cities, towns, and agriculture.
For the last two years, I have also been a part-time adjunct professor of political theory at Utah State University. I teach a course on the history of political thought, where I take my students through much of the same texts that inspired the American founding, and read what our Founding Fathers wrote about the Constitution and our form of government.
My family
My wife and I live in Logan with our four beautiful kids and a flock of chickens. We are grateful every day to call Cache Valley home.
